Welcome to Warwick Tap
We are Warwick Tap, one of Britain's longest running dance societies run by students! Voted 2019's Best Society Under 100 Members, we offer a range of classes on a weekly basis and perform in a variety of shows, festivals and competitions. One of the biggest events in our calendar is Pizazz! This is the university's largest dance showcase organised by Warwick Tap, which brings together hundreds of dancers from over thirteen other societies. We also perform in showcases in terms one and three as well as Pizazz in term 2! Regardless of ability, we are a fun, friendly and inclusive society that welcome anyone! :))
Classes
Our classes are taught at a range of levels so there is something for everyone!
Classes are held on a weekly basis in Westwood Dance Studio, and the price is £2.50 per class; but they are free for your first class at each level.
You can Pay As You Go (PAYG) online under individual class passes (see link here for term 1) or alternatively you can purchase a class pass to attend a certain level for the whole term. Class passes are £21 for each level (seen below) which works out cheaper. You can attend multiple levels of classes but would need to pay in some way for each class you attend! NEW to this year we have a combined class pass of £31 for the Advanced & advanced plus class so you can get 50% off the new advanced plus class for the 23/24 academic year.
Classes available in 23/24 academic year are shown below:
Beginners: This class is perfect for anyone who once tap danced and wants to pick it up again, to those who have never even seen a pair of tap shoes before! In a relaxed environment you will start with the basics, learning simple steps that will gradually be built up, before becoming part of a full dance routine. In each term you will then have the chance to perform the routine learnt that term in a show. Most notably have the opportunity to perform in our show Pizazz (of course this is only if you feel ready, there is absolutely no pressure to perform!). With tap shoes to borrow for those that don't own a pair, this class is ideal for anyone wanting to learn the basics!
Beginners steps (FREE): Formerly last year known as all levels technical class this class has been adapted and is new to 23/24. It is for beginners to come along and have extra practice with their teachers where they can further break down tap steps people are learning in the beginners class. This is a great way for beginners to consolidate their knowledge from the beginners class and to build up their confidence in tapping quicker. It is NOT mandatory for people in the beginners class to attend so allows everyone to come along when they feel like it or when they feel they want the extra practice in a studio.
Intermediate: Building on from beginners, this class is aimed at those who have grasped the basic steps and are able to learn at a faster pace. Moves such as suzie cues, pull backs, maxi fords and triple time steps will be taught for those who are familiar with tap and want to learn something more complex. You will be given the opportunity to perform in a number of showcases including the term two spectacular, Pizazz!
Advanced: The hardest level we offer, this class is for those who feel confident in their tap shoes, have been dancing for a while and have a good knowledge of tap! Building on steps from intermdiate level, you will be taught more complicated routines at a fast pace and will have the opportunity to perform in many showcases!
Advanced Plus: NEW to 23/24 academic year is a level up from the advanced class. This is for those who feel very confident but want to have an extra challenge in learning more complicated steps and routines. It is a fun, challenging class for those who have been in the advanced class for a while and fancy a challenge and/or for those who have tapped at a higher tap grade level also before coming to uni.
We also offer the chance to perform in competition routines across the UK! This opportunity is available to intermediate and advanced members who wish to compete at a national level. No previous competition experience is required and the classes are free, so everyone is able to get involved all you need to do is audition which is super relaxed in a form of a workshop style! In 22/23 year, we also had a wildcard competition team, which performed a fusion with Warwick Indian Classical Dance Society and was an amazing experience for our dancers.

Membership
Our standard membership is for current univeristy students from undergraduates to postgraduates and costs £2.50.
For those who require an associate membership it is £3.00 and please contact the current president so they can help set up and sort out the membership.
