Non-BUCS Team of the Year 2022 and 2023!
This past year Devils made club history becoming x2 National Champions and Grand Champions at University Nationals!
We welcome all levels of skill and experience - most of us had never cheered before Uni so don't be afraid to learn something new. Cheer is a great way to keep fit, make amazing new friends, and represent the University! We have 11 cheerleading and dance squads, 9 competitive and 2 non-competitive so there really is something for everyone. Aside from competitions and performances, we have a very busy social calendar, with weekly socials and domestic and international tours! We also get involved with multiple University-wide events, and regularly volunteer and raise money for charity. We pride ourselves on being a very friendly, open and inclusive club where lifelong friendships can form.
Large Stunt
We have two Large Stunt squads. These are our largest competitive squads comprising of 28-32 members. We compete at Level 1 and 2, with athletes ranging from complete beginners to experienced cheerleaders. It combines elements of stunting, dance, tumbling and jumps. We train at world-class cheer gym Coventry Dynamite who annually compete at the NCA World Championships in Florida. In our sessions we have access to their incredible facilities including a full-size sprung floor and tumble track as well as being coached by their outstanding coaches.
Small Stunts
We have three competitive Small Stunt squads for the 2023/24 season. If you are completely new to cheer, don't worry! Our Level 2 squads are perfect for those of you who have never tried the sport before, or for those who just want to focus on stunting. These squads are pure stunting, there are no jumps, dance or tumbling elements involved and each is comprised of between four and five members. We have All-Girl and Co-Ed squads, and typically train once a week. We also offer a Level 3 Small Stunt squad whose routine consists of higher difficulty stunting skills. In 2022, our Level 3 Co-Ed team became National Champions!
Jazz
Our Jazz squad is one of our most technically challenging dance squads, with routines comprised of traditional and stylised movements to create a dynamic routine. Our Jazz team trains once a week in the dance studios at the on-campus Sports Hub. This past year, the Jazz team placed second at Legacy Cheer and Dance in a highly competitive division.
Hip Hop
In 2019, our Hip Hop squad was two-time National Champions and invited to BCA's Champions Challenge. Our Hip Hop routines are high energy, sassy and are made up of clean, sharp movements. Like all our Dance Squads, Hip Hop will train once a week for 2 hours in the Sports Hub.
Pom
Pom is our largest Dance squad, and performs using the traditional pom-poms to create an eye-catching, fast-paced routine. This past season our Pom team placed 4th out of 21 teams at Future Cheer University Nationals!
Lyrical
For 2 years in a row, our Lyrical squad has been undefeated National Champions at the Legacy Cheer and Dance competition.! Lyrical routines are often very expressive and are used to tell a story through dance. Our Lyrical squad trains once a week and consistently impresses at all showcases and competitions.
Development Squad
Our Development squad is one of our two Non-Competitive squads. We train once weekly on a Sunday in Westwood Games Hall. This squad is ideal for beginners and members looking to further develop their cheerleading skills. We will work on stunting, dance and jumps, similar to a Large Stunt squad but in a non-competitive setting. Many of our memebrs join our Development Squad to practise skills before joining a competitive team in the future or as a fun extracurricular activity, away from academics. As well as being a lesser commitment and a cheaper option, Development Squad provides a great social atmosphere, and members have the opportunity to perform at multiple events throughout the year.
Game Day
Our Game Day squad is also one of our Non-Competitive squads. The squad trains weekly on a Monday and will perform at a variety of sport matches, university events and our annual showcase. It is a performance-based squad and is open to all members, regardless of experience. Game Day has previously consisted of Pom-style routines but we are looking to diversify our routines this year to include a broader range of dance styles.
Socials
This year we have a very busy and fun social calendar planned! We are a very sociable club and our Social Secretaries ensure that we put on a huge variety of events throughout the year that accomodate everyone. We circle weekly in the SU Copper Rooms before POP! on a Wednesday night and this is a perfect opportunity to make friends and socialise, whether you choose to drink or not! We also host a number of sober socials such as movie nights, meals, trampoline park visits, escape rooms and BBQs. Even if you are not part of our competitive and non-competitive teams, we would love to see you at our events as a Social Devil - the more the merrier! Socials are a large part of what makes Devils so fun to be a part of, and so we make sure that there is something for everyone.
Community
Our club selects a number of charities to support throughout the year. Annually, we hold our Stuntathon event in Warwick SU where our members stunt and dance for 12 hours in support of a local charity. We also put on our Bring A Boy fixture in support of Movember where we encourage boys who have never cheered or danced before to come and give it a go! We will also hold other social events throughout the year to raise money for different causes.
This is just a snapshot of all the things we do!
