About Us
• Warwick Futsal is one of the fastest-growing sports clubs on campus with over 50 current members of all fields of study and stages in their academic journey.
•The club currently has two teams successfully competing in BUCS competitions (British Universities & Colleges Sport) which is the national governing body for Higher Education Sport in the UK, along with a third team in a local league.
•We have enjoyed great success in recent years, with our second team winning the Midlands 3A title and our first team winning the coveted National Trophy for the first time ever.
•Alongside competitive success, the club has been growing quickly reflecting the growing popularity of futsal today as well the club’s impressive social aspect. We have weekly socials and hold two annual tours, one domestic, the other international creating great relationships, making it more than just a sports club.
•The focus of our club is to always strive towards improving and playing to the best of our ability whilst remembering the importance of fair play and sportsmanship and fostering an environment with strong team-spirit and inclusivity.
With the 1s and 2s usually playing their games on Sunday and the development squad competing on Mondays, there is no clash with any other Wednesday sports competitions. As a result, we welcome students pursuing excellence in other academic sports.
Why Futsal?
The highly intense and quick-paced indoor version of football is getting more and more popular all over the world. This comes hardly as a surprise given the sheer characteristics of the game: Limited space and the resulting constant opponent pressure demand superb technical skills, as any bad touch or inaccurate pass is punished. Every change of possession may lead to an instant goal-scoring opportunity, which means there is no room for boredom. With more touches, more action per player, more shots and more goals - what's not to like?
The likes of Messi and Ronaldo have openly admitted they wouldn't be where they are now if it wasn't for Futsal.
Socials
Socials are going to look different this year. Firstly, we are happy to announce we will be returning to our home in the Copper Rooms for multiple pop and skool dayz socials per term. On top of this, our social secs are eager to branch out and add a variety of socials this year, including sober socials, ensuring our club is a place where all feel welcome. After successful tours to Krakow and Seville in the past two years, we are pleased to announce we will be participating in ANOTHER international tour this year, a fantastic way to make some of your best memories at university (just ask a certain Rory Edens about trumpets).
Charity
Eager to be active helpers of our community, we run and organise multiple charity events across the year, including Movember and an annual Charity tournament. Last year the club managed to raise over £1000 for our chosen charities, and we are looking to outdo ourselves this year, so make sure to watch this space.
